Ti-Lock-NL
control joints are installed in control
bays in flooring to relieve and isolate
stresses in screeds and beds arising
from drying
shrinkage, thermal change and traffic
load. They also serve to accommodate
deflection arising from the base provided
they directly
coincide with joints in the underlying
slab. These joints are anchored into
the screed or bed by the continuous
perforated footplates on either side
which provide a very firm key throughout
the length of the joint. When installing
NL joints, and where the joint is
used with marble or terrazzo which
is polished after laying, it should
be installed 1 or 2mm above the level
of the unpolished paving. When grinding
is carried out, the joint simply polishes
down flush with the surface of the
tiles.
Two types of Ti-Lock-NL joints are
manufactured:- TIL-NL joints which
are designed for normal service and
which have 1mm thick metal side plates
and THD-NL joints which are used in
very heavy duty applications where
exceptional levels of impact and abrasion
are anticipated. THD-
NL joints have 3mm thick metal side
plates.

Both
types of joints are supplied in
2 metre lengths with Brass, Aluminium
or Stainless Steel side plates bonded
to a Neoprene or *Vamac
air channelled core. Standard core
colours are Black, Grey or Stone
(beige). Special colours and sizes
can be manufactured to order.
*Vamac joints have
been specifically developed for
projects where a high degree of
fire resistance and low toxic smoke
emission is required. Such installations
include
underground rail terminals and basement
levels of air terminals, hospitals
and other areas where personnel
(or passengers) work (or transit)
below ground level. Vexcolt's *Vamac
synthetic rubber extrusions
have been tested and approved to
the latest London Underground Limited
Engineering Standard E1042:A4 September
2000 'Engineering Standard for the
fire safety performance of materials
used underground'.
