Anatomy
of an Expansion Joint System |
Back |
Vexcolt
reinvests heavily in research and development.
This catalogue illustrates several new and
revolutionary systems, which have consumed
over 20,000 man-hours in design and testing.
EJS designs can be broadly categorized into
3 groups. These are described below:
Components:
Thermoplastic
Seal Systems (React Series 100 and 200) |
Features
and Benefits: |

|
1.
Flush easy clean surface
without dirt traps or channels to
collect water and debris.
2. Seal is thermoplastic.
The ear is rigid. This serves to lock
the seal in place ensuring that, when
the structural gap opens and the seal
comes under tension, it does not pull
away from the frame. The main seal
body is highly flexible allowing up
to 300% elongation before
break. This enables the seal to provide
high movement capacity.
3. Support plate
provides additional support to the
seal for use under heavy traffic.
Plate also impedes distortion of the
seal under compression, which may
otherwise create a tripping hazard.
4.Frame is produced
from 6063-T6 aluminum and incorporates
a
channel to accept a vapour barrier
to be used as an additional layer
of protection against penetration
of water (optional).
5. Frame bases are
extra wide to ensure that fasteners
are sufficiently
distant from structural joint edges.
If fasteners are too close, spalling
of the joint edge is likely and joint
collapse may result. Frame bases are
also extruded with crenellations to
ensure a firm grip to infill
bedding or screed materials.

Thermoplastic
Seal Systems (React Series 100 and 200) |
Features
and Benefits: |

|
1.
Frame is extruded from 6063-T6
aluminum. Multiple frame heights
suit a variety of blockout or finish
depths for floor, wall or ceiling.
2. Floor frames incorporate
a channel to accept a vapour barrier
to
be used as an additional layer of
protection against penetration
of water (optional).
3. Frame is a single
extruded component to simplify installation.
Patented bevel to underside of top
frame section allows plate to
maintain a low profile during its
full range of movement.
4. Low profile, "no-bump"
system.
5. Standard frame
is grooved for slip resistance. “Snap-on”
profiles
support installations for vinyl finishes,
thereby reducing the system
sightline.
6. Plate is contoured
to glide effortlessly between the
frames. A gasket
may be used to reduce friction and
rattle.
7. Ideal for seismic
applications up to ±100%.

3. Vapour Barrier Channel |
Centre
Bar Systems (React Series 400, 500 and
700) |
Features
and Benefits: |
|
1.
Frame is extruded from 6063-T6 aluminum.
Heavy-duty frames are
extruded from 6061-T6. Multiple frame
heights are available.
2. Ideal for seismic
applications up to ±100%.
3. Centering bar
locates plate in a central position
over joint opening
and also allows easy access for joint
inspection and maintenance.
4. Plate can be provided
in aluminum, stainless steel or brass
to meet
load or architectural requirements.
5. Multiple configurations
available for a variety of surface
finishes.
These frames may be multi-component.
6. Optional spring
loaded system for use with vinyl and
carpet
finishes so they can be laid under
the centre plate reducing the
joint sightline.
